Are Colonics Really Good For You?
Hydrotherapy, or in more casual terms, a “colonic”, is essentially a procedure that involves flushing out your large intestine. To put it frankly, a tube is inserted into your bum and warm water flows up there, until you feel “full” and release…yes, exactly what you’re thinking.
Introducing warm, purified water into the large intestine, colonic irrigation hydrates the tissue, activates the muscles and nerve endings, stimulates digestive movement, and helps you to release built-up waste, gases, mucous, toxins and that are likely accumulating in the large intestine.
But, Is It Safe?
While they may seem ‘trendier’ than usual these days, it’s actually an ancient therapy using modern technology, that has been practiced all over the world by diverse medicinal lineages for a wide range of therapeutic purposes. It is truly a time tested therapy.
Today, it is one of the best therapies for cleansing / detoxification and functional digestive issues, such as gas, bloating, constipation, IBS, and general digestive imbalances.
How Do I Know If I Need One?
Colonics help your body release stuck, old, decaying waste, assisting your cleansing and detox process. I’d beg to argue that while no one “needs” anything to feel whole, healthy & vibrant…almost everyone & anyone can benefit from getting a colonic.
“Normally healthy people will find it valuable to take colon hydrotherapy every couple of months in order to experience how well one feels when the colon is truly empty. It’s a fact that most people fail to fully evacuate the colon, something they don’t realize. People undergoing colon hydrotherapy on a prevention basis, are quite surprised at how much waste is removed by the procedure.”

Gastro-Intestinal Surgeon
What I love about this gentle yet effective therapeutic practice is that unlike laxatives, colonics do not tend to lead to dependency. The goal of colonics is to support your body to function better on its own, while also aiding in detox and digestive healing. A conservative regime of a series of 3 sessions spaced about a week apart, followed by a monthly maintenance session, has been proposed as a safe and helpful frequency of treatment for overall wellness.

Kiki’s Tips For Finding The Best Clinic/Practitioner
Of course, it’s a sensitive subject and delicate matter…hygiene and expertise goes a longggg way here!
First off, if you can find a method that uses The Open Method - I’d opt for that! The Open Method, with a machine like the Angel of Water System, has many advantages over the more ‘typical’ procedures in which the practitioner is essentially ‘in charge’ of your releases. With The Open Method, you get to ‘lead’ your own releases which is more comfortable for the body, providing the most complete and efficient detox of blockages and waste - empowering you to work with your body’s own natural signals and cues. I also like how privacy is an option during the session, and you can take rests and breaks whenever needed.
Next up, make sure your practitioner only uses disposable supplies - check that these are included in the cost of your session (not a surcharge). Ask if they disinfectant thoroughly between each session using hospital-grade sanitation agents.
Since water is essentially being used to clean your colon throughout the entire process, it’s essential that only the safest & cleanest water is used. Ideally, it is triple-filtered with a sediment filter, carbon filter, and UV filter.
