FEELFUL EATING: Yasaman of Organic Bytes
You’ll never ENJOY healthy food without the right mindset.
I interviewed my best friend and Founder behind the super-clean and oh-so-aesthetic cakes, Organic Bytes, to learn her secrets for a positively nourishing relationship with food.
Q: Did you ever feel the need to "work on" your 'relationship' to food? When? Why?
“For me, it’s always been about looking at food in a wholesome way and choosing the clean, simple options. For example, I don’t think about having ‘cheat days’, I’ve always gravitated towards the foods that make me feel good - and those are the foods that are actually nourishing for me. Sure, I enjoy learning more about different ingredients and supplements that actually make me feel better, but I don’t obsess over diets. It’s always been about choosing healthy and wholesome foods - not for the sake of trendy diets, but for the ultimate purpose of exquisite flavor and nourishment.”
Q: What helps you to truly connect IN THE MOMENT to your meal time?"
“To be honest with a growing company and a busy schedule I have been less in the moment (especially during the day) then I’d liked to just lately. And I think that’s okay as I’m actually choosing to take notice of this now, and from that place I can choose to practice being present and in the moment. What’s helpful for me is reminding myself how I’m grateful for the food that I am consuming, and also being grateful for the times I get to share meals with my loved ones.”
Q: If you could unlearn one piece of diet-culture that still creeps up on you now and again, what would it be?
“Counting calories! I never got into it too much, but still see so many diets that have that at their core. Eating whole foods and trusting one’s own bodily intuition is far more important than counting calories. Ultimately, I believe that focusing on calories is extremely misleading. It also adds undue stress which affects our digestion and gut health - disconnecting us from feeling and living our best lives. That’s the mindset I have with our company, Organic Bytes too, it’s all about using nutrient dense ingredients - because let’s be real: the same number of calories from different types of food can have very different effects!”
