Healthy Eating in San Miguel De Allende
Living in San Miguel De Allende these past several months, I’ve tried just about every place there is amongst my casual quest for healthy, organic, plant-based grub - all set in a beautiful atmosphere filled with good vibes. Here is my curated list to save you the scavenger hunt…
Jacques. Super cool vibe, loads of nutritious plant-based bowls on the menu, plus a few “comfort-food” items incase you wanna take your friends/family who can’t be dealing with your health obsession. Order ANY of their bowls and you will be a happy customer. Their location on Del Pueblito also just happens to be the most Instagramable street in SMA.
Mercado Sano >>> loads of options here…
Blend Boutique (organic juices in glass, custom cleanses, plus the best smoothie bowl in SMA - it’s thick AF).
Juice Bar (run by the happiest man you will ever meet, and probably the only place in this town you’ll find juiced wheatgrass this fresh & delish! *sidenote: be sure to ask for your green juice “un poquito picante”…he likes to go a bit cray with the ginger and it BURNS, ha!)
Madame La Lune (next-level gluten-free quiches…pay more and get the gluten-free versions regardless of it you eat gluten or not - the crust is orgasmic. They also have 2 dairy-free + gluten-free cakes…the chocolate and my fave: marzipan, which are some of the best desserts I’ve ever tasted).
+ The Kitchen on the right-hand side…(no clue what the name is, but they have REAL vegan tamales which are a cheap, easy, tasty, “authentic” meal you can count on any day
Deli Q. Prepared gourmet comfort foods - loads of healthy options, and great for when you need to entertain but can’t be bothered to cook…order their custom vegan snack board and thank me later!
Soltribe Cuisine. A rotating menu of all organic, vegan, gluten-free Mexican eats! They also have a few menu staples like nachos & cheesecake (yes, all vegan!). A small and humble place with a casual atmosphere but high-quality & authentic, tasty food.
Rustica. Good wifi, good working environment, amazing food (& even better prices). This is a gem for any nomad working away in SMA & wanting to stay chic + healthy. Their roasted veggie salad on zucchini noodles with quinoa is one of the best salads in town (& this is coming from a girl who doesn’t even usually like quinoa!).
La Raíz de la Tierra. One of the newer all-vegan casual restaurants in SMA. They’ve got your classic “comfort-food” vegan grub finds (like veggie burgers + hotdogs) but also some nourishing health-freak-approved bowls.
RAICES. Freshly made, natural & traditional Mexican food - just like your fave Latina mama-bear would make…Not too many “vegan” options (almost everything has cheese!), but super tasty food that’s worth the treat.
Don Taco Tequila. For all the Mexican - without the meat. Super funky & progressive menu. You can also do “half-orders” - so here’s my formula: half guac (umm it has spirulina, hello!), half salad + any taco of choice. You’re welcome.
Hotel Matilda. Their vegan ramen. THE BEST. That is all.
The Restaurant. Thursday night Burgers…except do it vegetarian, because you can.
Bastardo. A little outside of the town centre - worth the cab out. A “beer garden” that instantly makes you feel like you’re on vacation somewhere magical (p.s. you are!). Lots of local & yummy plant-based options, including a super good vegan burger.
Via Organica. Another spot outside of centro but again worth getting an Uber for. Delicious all-organic menu set in what feels like an English garden country-side of bliss.
Cafe Lula. Gluten-free restaurant with lots of plant-based options. An amazing brunch spot (their GF waffles are guilt-free indulgence made easy!), and on Tuesdays they do a killer taco night. The atmosphere & aesthetics here is also right on point.
La Cabra Iluminada. An all vegan cafe with the best playlist in town. Here you will find the coolest folks in town doing their cool project whilst sipping on a lavender almond latte + mindfully munching on a vegan cinnamon roll or black-bean brownie.
Amapola. A super gorgeous cafe - one of my favourite places in SMA to go and remind myself how lucky I am to live here simply by looking around (the fountain in the terrace says it all!). They’ve got fresh brunch & lunch options in case you fancy more than just a coffee.
