Stop Bullying GP!
In case you haven’t heard…Gwyneth Paltrow from everyone’s love to hate GOOP just had an interview with Dr Will Cole this past week and the internet is getting vicious.
But…who cares, right? The cyberweb is full of trolls and picking on celebrities left, right & center - why is this any different? Well, personally, I was utterly shocked to see all of the INTUITIVE EATING coaches and fellow “Food Freedom” Ambassadors I enjoy following (and some of which I've actually had the pleasure of collaborating with) - all gang up on the hate towards GP.
Just to get you up to speed at a high-level: Gwyneth shared how she likes to “fast”, “eat paleo'' and drink “bone broth” and apparently that is spreading disordered eating propaganda all over the poor innocent women that consume social media. I have zero tolerance for this perspective. The woman is clearly showcasing HER OWN CHOICES on how she chooses to nourish (or arguably, ‘under-nourish’ - of which i actually have my doubts) HER OWN BODY - HER OWN STOMACH.
The fact that this is TRIGGERING to so-called “Intuitive Eating Coaches” and “All Foods Fit Dieticians” is ironic. Why would this ANGER them all so much? So much so that they literally jump on IG Reels and TikTok to vocally participate in the abuse of this “Wellness Celeb”. I find it saddening.
Look, GP isn’t telling us we all need to follow HER routine. She’s not saying HER choices are best for EVERYONE (or downright ANYONE ELSE!). Hey, none of them seem to be taking offense at the fact that she apparently uses a sauna daily and is trying to paint the picture that she’s ordering the world to go get their sweat on… In fact, most of her acclaimed “wellness routines” - although many of them sound juicy & appealing in my humble opinion - are downright too expensive and just plain inaccessible (or illegal LOL) for most of us with wealth not in the tens of millions. All good. I’m not “offended”.
It’s called: take what inspires you - leave what doesn’t.
Look, once you heal your shit - i.e. your own disordered eating thoughts & habits (or more specifically: orthorexia) - none of this “propaganda” should even bother you anymore. Who are we to judge?
All we have to do is listen to OUR OWN bodies. Respect OUR OWN stomach’s desires and boundaries.
I’d love for some of these ‘Intuitive Eating Coaches’ to stop poking fun at the desire to be healthy & slender (our innate birthright) and instead empower women to not feel SHAME if they feel called to the messages that GP shares. Yes, some of it is hilariously woo-woo, and I’ll pass - but ultimately: she’s giving value to being healthy & being in a body without excess storage (i.e. “fat”). There is nothing WRONG with that.
I guess that’s why my approach to “Intuitive Eating” - although flexible and driven by the values of total choice & respectful abundance in the body…is MUCH different than other coach’s approaches…which seem to be filled with “just love yourself however you look” mindset shifts vs. actually getting to the ROOT of why you may be overeating - which is out-of-order and inappropriate eating which needs to be dealt with.
