Why I Love Human Design as a Compliment to Intuitive Eating
If you’ve never heard of Human Design - you’re in for a wild ride as I introduce you to this incredibly weird & freakily accurate tool to better know yourself (as cliche as that reads!). If, however, you’re already somewhat familiar with this system, you may be wondering how the heck it relates to the concepts that I teach and consult on - eating intuitively!
Well, get ready because this short but valuable (& fun!) read will cover both…
First of all: WTF is Human Design?
Well, you can think of it like a system that explains how you were built, and how to best respond to the world—like a combination between astrology and Myers-Briggs. Its creation story is a little insane: Basically, Ra Uru Hu (née Alan Krakower), a former advertising executive and magazine publisher, had an eight-day visitation in the ’80s with a “Voice,” who dictated a mechanical system that’s literally a four-hundred-page textbook for how we all work, as defined by our time and place of birth. While it sounds a bit far-fetched to say the least, when you actually generate your chart, you may be surprised by how much it sounds like you.
I certainly was, as a Reflector - I finally felt seen & understood for the quite unique individual I always deeply knew myself to be (Reflectors are 1% of the worlds’ population). I had first heard about Human Design on a podcast and immediately felt like I needed to know more - in fact, I wanted to discover all I could about myself through this unique lens…a portal so to speak.
Lucky for me, I was referred to one of the first and best in the world - Anna Wrona, who has almost 2 decades of experience (which is a heck of a lot considering it’s a system that has only been around since the 80s!). Anna walked me through how I was a wise observer of life with a great gift of reading other people. She explained how other people will always see aspects of themselves when they meet a Reflector, and that Reflectors are meant to be at the heart of their community - they know exactly when a community is functioning properly and when it is not. This deeper awareness & deeper understanding has helped me immensely in my personal & professional life, and I even started bringing in Anna’s expertise to my coaching work, teaching women how to heal & lose weight through intuitive eating.
See, depending on your Human Design chart, you will process thoughts, emotions, and even food differently. Surprise surprise: you are inherently unique, and I’m a firm believer in honouring the uniqueness of our bodies (both physically & energetically) as we find harmony & balance for our most happy & thriving self again (oh and yes - that might mean losing excess weight!).
You can read more about Human Design on Anna’s website who does a great job of explaining it’s uses, but I wanted to leave you with a few things to consider as it relates to your food/eating choices.
Take the following questions (invitation to journal on the prompts if you feel called!) as an opportunity to explore what works for YOU - even if it’s not currently “trending” amongst the health & wellness influencers of the moment, it might actually fit YOUR design…
Do you like to eat in peace & QUIET or have some background NOISE on?
Do you gravitate more towards COLD vs WARM vs HOT food?
What kind of LIGHTING do you prefer to eat in?
Do you prefer eating during the DAY or EVENING?
Do you like SIMPLE meals (minimal ingredients) or more COMPLEX combinations & variety?
Do you tend to like to REPEAT food or always desire something NEW?
While I teach all of my clients using the same fundamental principles of eating according to hunger & taste - there’s a reason I work 1:1 with every single woman I take on…we are all made up of perfectly unique cells that lead to various taste preferences, metabolic states, and thus gravitate towards different amounts of different foods at different times and circumstances. Coming back to YOUR body (& your design!) is key to finding what works for YOU.
Whether or not Human Design peaks your fancy as another pathway to discover those parts of you that are uniquely YOU - so that you can work with rather than against the “norm” for you - I encourage you to at least reflect on what eating styles you may be taking on simply because “you heard it was good” vs. “this feels good for me”. There is a difference. Calmness & kindness to ourselves is often the missing piece in recognizing this.
How can you redesign your eating occasions to better suit how YOU like things? How YOU feel best? Take the next few days to reflect & note on this, and perhaps the weekend to start implementing.
For those of you who would like a fully comprehensive reading with Anna Wrona, I encourage you to book with her before July 31st as she’s offering her entire Intro to Human Design video course FREE as a bonus add-on for anyone from my community who books a reading (you can purchase here) - just mention my name!
